Jordyn Rose Thomas is a published author at just eight years of age. At an age when most kids are uncertain what their own dreams even are, Jordyn has already fulfilled one of her dreams, by publishing her own book, The Cosmo Cats Arizona Adventure.
Spotty, Fluffy, Whiskers and Whimsey are the Cosmo Cats, who live in a town called Cats Ville. Each wears a magical collar and cape, which come in handy when they win plane tickets to Arizona. And their adventure begins.
Each of the Cosmo Cats is named after a real live kitten, and the characters in her book have colors and fur patterns that match Jordyn’s very real kittens. When asked, which of the cats is her favorite, Jodyn replied, “It’s Cosmo.” Cosmo is her dad’s cat, which was adopted after her book was published.
Jordyn was invited to share a booth at the prestigious Los Angeles Times Festival of Books trade show in April, 2023. The free indoor and outdoor community event, held on the University of Southern California campus included over 300 exhibitors and more than 500 authors. When word spread that an eight-year old had written her own book, the line for autographed copies formed quickly. Jerry reported that Jordyn signed over 300 books in about an hour.
But Jordyn is far from done- in fact, she’s planning a whole series of Cosmo Cats adventures for her fans. At this time, she has a couple of other books nearing completion. One that is nearly done tells the story of the Cosmo Cats’ trip to Italy. She’s also working on one about Fluffy’s birthday party.
Another tells of their Supermarket Adventure. Of course, the supermarket trip involves shopping for food, so they load their grocery cart with cans of tuna- which is essential for brave cats, hungry for adventure. Since Jordyn’s dad owns and operates Thomas Market in Malad, much of the plot for Supermarket Adventure is based on experiences in the family grocery store. She promises that Cosmo will make his appearance in a coming volume. When told that sounds perfect, Jordyn was quick to correct, “No, that’s purrrrrrfect! “
The publisher of Cosmo Cats Arizona Adventure is IUniverse. Aspiring authors can experience their own free publishing consultation from IUniverse, simply by filling in a form at www.iuniverse.com.
Besides being available at Thomas Market and other local stores, Cosmo Cats is on sale internationally through Amazon, and other online sellers, Barnes & Noble Bookstores and several other large national book store chains. When asked how they found a publisher, Jerry explains, “There are lots of options out there, and it can be difficult to find the one that’s right for you. Each company offers its own resources, so you have to sort out what each one brings to the table.” He then added, “The industry is filled with promoters, so you can spend about anything you want to promote a book. The sky is the limit in that industry.”
Cosmo Cats was created and written by Jodyn when she was only eight years old. That’s the very unique thing that has made her work stand out from all the competition. She came up with her own concepts that were often refined by others, including her mother, Mary, and Nana Coakley. When asked what advise she’d give to aspiring authors, she thought for a moment, then said with authority, “Check the spelling.” Sound advise from someone who’s been there.
Despite her notoriety, Jordyn is very much a normal child, who enjoys doing things other kids do. Though she has been home-schooled in the past, she enjoys the social aspects of attending public school at Malad Elementary School, where she’s a 4th grader.. So, be ready for more adventures from The Cosmo Cats. Regardless of the storyline, you can be assured, each story is sure to be “purrrrrrrfect.”
