  • Laid Out: By the U. S. Reclamation Service at the beginning of the Minidoka Irrigation Project in 1906
  • Original Name: Scherrer, named after an early settler by that name who established a general store and post office 
  • Origin of Name:  When Scherrer’s post office was established in 1907, it was named “Acequia,” a Spanish name, meaning ‘water course,’ apparently to denote where two canals split off the main canal
  • Speak Like a Native: (pronounced uh-SEEK-wuh)
  • Known for: Farming & Agricultural community, located 6.9 miles southeast of Snake River’s Minidoka Dam
  • Notable Features: Elementary School, LDS church, various businesses
  • Location: 5.5 miles (9 minutes) northeast of Rupert on Hwy 24
  • Population 2020 Census:  131, up from 124 in 2010
