  • Original Name:  Thatcher; the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saint ward was originally called New Cambridge because of its affiliation with Cambridge, Idaho
  • Origin of Name: Original train station was named after Virginia Thatcher, daughter of George W. Thatcher, Superintendent of Northern Railroad, after being known by several names, could have possibly been renamed by Mormon settlers from the state of Virginia
  • Notable Features: Original rail station on Oregon Shortline Railroad, Post office established in 1910- operating until 1969, red brick colonial LDS church; cement grain elevators still stand there; at one time it had a stage station; once a population center, with an elementary school,  now a rural farming community
  • Location: 34.9 miles (35 minutes) southeast of Pocatello, ID on I-15 S at exit 36
