  • Settled:The McCombs family located on Bear River, near Trenton, in 1869. The general area was part of a large grazing area collectively known as the “Big Range,” where cattlemen from Richmond and Lewiston grazed their livestock
  • Origin of Name: Bishop William B. Preston from Logan organized the settlement, naming  it “Trenton” after Trenton, New Jersey, from which city a number of the early settlers had come.
  • Known for: The area lacked a supply of culinary water, until The West Side Canal was constructed from Riverside (north of Preston, Idaho) to Trenton. Its construction took over 6 years, finally delivering the precious water. 
  • Notable Features: Post Office, feed mill, LDS Church
  • Location: 7 miles ( 10 minutes) west of Richmond on Hwy 142
