  • Settled: Rupert was platted on Nov. 1, 1905 and filed in Lincoln county on Feb. 7, 1907. The village of Rupert was incorporated April 1906
  • Origin of Name:   In 1904 a railroad employee named John Henry Rupert brought mail to the town. The railroad put “Rupert” on his mailbag and soon the town was named Rupert
  • Original Name: “Wellfirst” or “Wetfirst” after the town’s original well, which was located in the Town Square
  • Known for: County Seat and largest city in Minidoka County; Christmas City USA, 4th of July Celebration and other local events
  • Notable Features: Famous for its historic town square shopping district; Historic Wilson Theatre houses local concerts & performances; an active Recreation Department, churches, private and public schools; Minidoka County Historical Museum;  Minidoka Memorial Hospital, and many small businesses and professional offices; located near Lake Walcott and Minidoka Dam
  • Location:  7.6 miles (12 minutes) Follow Main St. in Burley east, taking left lane at the Y intersection east of town on Hwy 24 northeast through Heyburn, past I-84 to Rupert
  • Population 2020: 6,238, up from 5,554 in 2010
