  • Settled:  April 20, 1859, the second community settlement in Cache Valley, following Wellsville
  • Original Name:  Spring Creek, named after the creek of the same name
  • Origin of Name:  Certain circumstances prompted early settlers to consider the establishment of the settlement to have been “providential” in nature, thus the community became known as Providence
  • Early History:   Notable early settlers included Ira and Sarah Rice, Captain Dainiel Spencer and his wife Elizabeth Ann and Hopkin and Margaret Matthews
