- Origin of Name: Certain circumstances prompted early settlers to consider the establishment of the settlement to have been “providential” in nature, thus the community became known as Providence
- Early History: Notable early settlers included Ira and Sarah Rice, Captain Dainiel Spencer and his wife Elizabeth Ann and Hopkin and Margaret Matthews
