It may have been a corruption of the name “Beulah,” or it may have been named after one of two ancient cities named Pella- one in Jerusalem, the other the capital of the Macedonian Empire, birthplace of Alexander the Great; it has been implied that “Pella” implied “greatness,” due to ancient Pella’s reputation as a world center; Pella was the first rail stop, south of Burley and north of Kenyon of the Oakley Branch of the Oregon Short Line Railroad and also the name of the farming community in its vicinity
