The Union Pacific abandoned the line from Marion south to Oakley in 1983
Oakley Branch built south from Burley on the Twin Falls Branch, south and east 21.8 miles to Oakley. Remaining segments of the line from Burley to Marion is now owned and operated by the Eastern Idaho Railroad.
Minidoka and Southwestern began grading on Nov. 16, 1909. By 1911 tracks had been laid on 22.06 of 22.09 mile line and another .02 miles of grading completed The OSL completed by OSL, which absorbed M&SW Oct 31, 1919 Operations began Oct 20, 1911. Total cost of the project was $291,114, with a per mile cost of $13,341.61. Several station building, water and fuel stations and miscellaneous structures were included.
Followed Goose Creek through agricultural land, climbing 400 feet from Burley to Oakley, some mining in addition to agricultural; competed with Milner & North Side Railroad, an independent line from Oakley to Milner. Completed April 1910, went out of business in November 1915- could not compete with Oregon Short Line
Passenger service minimal, mixed trains running from Burley, connected with trains from Minidoka to Buhl. Ran daily except Sunday. With the emergence of the automobile and improved roads, passenger service dwindled and complete disappeared by 1950
