  • Origin of Name: Named for the lava geologic formations and hot springs in the area
  • Known for: An ancient health and medicinal resort, set aside by all Indian tribes to be used in peace- a number of hot springs gush from the lava; an important stop on the Oregon Trail; post office established in 1895; city offices, volunteer fire department, city parks, state-owned hot springs and olympic pool; known for inner-tube rides on Portneuf River
  • Location: 12.9 miles (17 minutes) southeast of Pocatello, ID on I-15 S
  • Population: 377 as of 2022
