  • Settled: 1910, after townsite was laid out by the Promontory-Curlew Land Company
  • Origin of Name: Named after Joseph Howell, president of that company and US Representative to Congress
  • Known for: Early farming community, with many original settlers coming from Logan and Wellsville, UT; adjacent to Northrop Grumman (formerly Thiokol) defense contractor; much of the area was originally a part of the Central Pacific Railroad land grant from its construction of the Transcontinental Railroad
  • Location: 19.4 miles (21 minutes) west of Tremonton on I-84 W at exit 26, then 3 miles south in central Blue Creek Valley
  • 2022 Census: 235, down from 237 in 2020
