- Settled: Glencoe was originally part of Mink Creek, first settled in 1879 by Peter and Elizabeth Egley; since settlers at the upper end of Mink Creek had difficulty getting through winters’ snows, in 1909 a new LDS ward was established by Stake President, George C. Parkinson
- Origin of Name: Members wasnted to name the new entity Cove, but with Cache Valley’s Coke in the surrounding area, it was decided to name it something else; someone suggested “Glen,” since its meaning was siimilar to Cove, and someone else suggested combining the two words into Glencove, which became Glencoe; many settlershad emigrated from Sweden, so eventually Glencoe was referred to as Sweden, and its people as Swedes
- Original Name:
Historical Overview: An old one-room school, called Glencoe School, also doubled as a church meeting place; eventually a double-wing building became Glencoe School District 23; it once had a store, a sawmill, with dances and basketball games at the church, affording primary recreation - Location: 22.9 miles (23 minutes) north of Preston on Hwy 34 N
