- Settled: In 1890; first settlement in Bear River Valley were along its east side from Garland to Bear River City
- Origin of Name: Named after Richard Garland, who led the company that constructed the Bothwell Canal and a leader in developing the sugar beet industry in the area
- Original Name: Sunset, after the beautiful sunsets there, changed to Garland in 1889; it had also been referred to as Poverty Flats and Mud Flats
- Known for: In the 1820s trappers came through this area to trap and explore, including Etienne Provost, Jedediah Smith, Kit Carson, and Jim Bridger. John C. Fremont’s exploration party traveled there. Construction of a canal system began in 1889, bringing irrigation water to the area and agriculture flourished
- Notable Features: A Utah Sugar Company sugar beet processing plant operated for many years, creating a cash crop for local farmers; in the 1920s sixty-five businesses were located there.
- Notable People: Gail Halvorsen, an officer in the United States Air Force, known as the “Berlin Candy Bomber”immediately after World War II
- Location: 2.3 miles (4 minutes) north of Tremonton, on Tremonton’s 300 E
- Population: 2022 Census: 2,613 up from 2,586 in 2020
