Earncliff, ID

  • Origin of Name: Named after the Rocky cliff north of the settlement, where “earns,” or eagles lived
Established: Believed to have been established as a post office in the 1860s or 70s, and believed to have been located northeast of the river crossing at a green tower, located at the main crossing of the Salt Lake Alternate; once had a stage station on the south side of Raft River on property currently owned by Joyce Ward
Historic Summary: A photo exists of the stage station; the road from Bridge came over Strevell Pass, along the Clear creek foothills, then traveled towards “the narrows,” down the south side of the river to the middle of Almo Valley, then crossed again to the north side, following the river west through Emigrant Pass
  • Location:  Several miles east of Almo, just past Riblett, in “The Narrows” area, on the EY Road between Almo and the Bridge intersection; exact location is unknown at this time
