  • Origin of Name: Named after Sam Cotterel, its first postmaster, who married a local girl; said to be quite a character, Cotterel and an accomplice stole some horses because they were angry with their owner; convicted of the crime, he served time in prison; it is believed Sam Cotterel was a direct descendent of the early Cotterel homesteader for whom the Cotterel Mountain Range is named
  • Notable Features: The state of Idaho operates Coterell weigh station on I-84, before its junction with I-86; the town had a post office 1912-17
  • Location:  18.5 miles (22 minutes) southeast of Burley on I-84
