  • Original Name: First known as Iowa Bar in 1889; later called Caribou City, then in 1920 as Caribou City; may also have been called Keenan at one time
  • Origin of Name: Named for Cariboo Fairchild, who after taking part in the gold rush in Cariboo region of British Columbia in 1860, two years later discovered gold in this region
  • History: At one time a major population center during the mining boom in the 1860s
  • Location: 54 miles (one hour & 37 minutes) northeast of Soda Springs on Hwy 34 E; actually located in Bonneville County, ID, but much of the history of Caribou county traces to this once-booming mining area, now a ghost town
  • No reported population in this ghost town
