- Settled: By Mormon settlers in spring of 1859, who filed upon four quarter sections of land in the Salt Lake City land office
- Origin of Name: There are at least two theories: 1.The name came from the deep rich mound of soil located on the alluvial fan made by the waters coming from Cherry Creek and City Creek, 2. It was named after Richmond, Virginia, by “homesick” southern settlers
- Original Name: Cub Creek, renamed as Richmond by LDS apostles Ezra T. Benson and Orson Hyde as part of their ecclesiastical duties in 1859 and incorporated in 1868
- Known for: Richmond Black & White Days was established as a public show to promote the area’s dairy industry, it continues as a huge community celebration. An earthquake, magnitude 5.7 hit the area on Aug. 30, 1962. Its epicenter was located seven miles north of Richmond, causing structural damage to up to 75% of the buildings in the area
- Notable Features: Post Office, City Offices, Library, Fire Department; LDS Church; Retail stores & business district, food servicers
- Location: Located 6 miles (7 minutes) north of Smithfield on Hwy 91
