- Settled: First settled by Mormon settler, Hans Jorgensen in 1869; other settlers began arriving in 1891.
- Origin of Name: Amalgamated Sugar Company was the area’s dominant employer for many years- the town’s name was derived from shortening “Amalgamated” to “Amalga”
- Known for: In 1929, after beet blight destroyed the local sugar beet population, Amalgamated ceased operation and moved its equipment to Sacramento, California
- Notable Features: At one time Amalga had a hotel, a railroad spur, and various businesses. After Amalgamated left the area, its site became home to a cheese plant, which processed the local milk into various products. The cheese plant now operates as Schreiber Foods, and the area has a fish farm; LDS Church, and city park
- Location: Located 4.4 miles (6 minutes) west of Smithfield on Hwy 218, then north on 2400 W
