- Settled: Robert Fellows lived here as early as 1865, In 1870 Mormon settlers began coming to the area
- Origin of Name: Named for John B. Thatcher, an early Mormon bishop, who became a State Senator
- Historical Overview: Originally part of Bannock County and later annexed into Caribou County in 1946; conflicts between farmers and ranchers led to a range war in 1866; There is not really a physical nucleus in Thatcher, as post ffice, school and church are located five miles apart; Farming, agricultural and residential area; located on the Bear River, it once had a store, saloon, sawmill, Thatcher Opera House, a creamery and several cheese factories
- Location: 27 miles (26 minutes) north of Preston, on Hwy 34
