  • Settled: Originally settled in 1871 and a terminus for the railroad in 1878
  • Original Name: The original LDS ward was known as Richfield, for the richness of the soil
  • Origin of Name: “Banida” is a portmandu, formed by combining Bannock and Oneida (Counties) into a new term; was coined in 1908, since Bannock and Oneida Counties were so close; a variant name for the community was “Dunnville”
  • Function: Primarily an ag-related farm and ranch community;  established originally as a railroad town, it once had a school, post office and lumber store, with stores, boarding houses, saloons, blacksmith shiops and eating places, all under canvas tents; farm commodities were loaded on the railroad at Coulum
  • Location:  11.5 miles (12 minutes) north of Preston on Hwy 91 N
