About Bannock County

Southeastern Idaho’s Bannock County is the sixth-most populous county in the state. Its county seat and largest city is Pocatello, which is also home to Idaho State University. Established in 1893, the county was named after a local Native American tribe, the Bannock. A significant portion of the Fort Hall Indian Reservation lies within the county. The region is characterized by agricultural valleys and mountain ranges; the Portneuf River flows through it. In addition to its agricultural base, Bannock County’s economy is driven by education, healthcare, and manufacturing.
