  • Settled: In 1863, largely by Danish Mormon immigrants sent from Brigham City to raise flax to be spun into cloth, for the Brigham City Mercantile and Manufacturing Association
  • Origin of Name: Named by  Lorenzo Snow, the sixth President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after Mantua, Ohio, his birthplace 
  • Original Name: Flaxville (for the flax raised there) and Little Copenhagen (for its Danish settlers;) at one time also known as Geneva, after the Swiss city  
  • Known for: From the beginning, Mantua has been regarded as a suburb of Brigham City; boasting Mantua Reservoir, a popular recreation area & Box Elder Campground
  • Notable Features: Known for producing large crops of wheat, oats, alfalfa, potatoes, and fruit, especially strawberries and flax
  • Location: 4.3 miles (7 minutes) east of Brigham City, up Sardine Canyon, towards Logan on Hwy 89/91
  • Population: 2022 Census: 1,256, up from 1,105 in 2020
