  • Settled: In 1863, by Joseph Morris, leader of a group, called the Morrisites, that had separated from the Mormon faith; they first settled near General Patrick Connor’s camp, then afterwards founded Soda Springs
  • Original Name:  Beer Springs, after the taste of water from certain springs found in the area
  • Origin of Name: Named for the soda deposits in the water
  • Known for: County seat first of Oneida County, then later of Caribou County, when it was separated from Oneida in 1919; an important campsite on the Oregon Trail; City offices, fire department, churches, post office, established in 1865, pioneer cemetery, public schools, hospital
  • Location: 56.6 miles (57 minutes) southeast of Pocatello, ID on I-15 S, then after taking exit 47, turning east on Hwy 30
  • Population:  3,179 in 2022
