  • Settled:  By William Head in 1866
  • Original Name: Worm Creek, named by settlers on Work Creek
  • Origin of Name: Named for WIlliam B. Preston, a prominent Mormon
  • Historical Overview: County seat of Franklin County; townsite was not platted until 1880s; railroad came through in 1878; has elementary schools, middle and high schools, volunteer fire department, parks department, cemetery, retail stores, motel, food & beverage providers, professional services; Oneida Stake Academy is under renovation; gained notoriety in 2004 as filming site of Independent Film, Napoleon Dynamite; Preston is widely known as the home of “That Famous Preston Night Rodeo,’ a PRCA event held annually since 1934, except one year during World War II; Preston also hosts Franklin County Fair each summer
  • Location: Located 10 miles north of the Utah/Idaho border; 26.7 miles (33 minutes) north of Logan, UT on Hwy 91 N
  • Population: 5,591 at 2020 census
