Deweyville, UT

  • Settled: By John C. Dewey family, in an area originally settled by William Empey in 1864
  • Original Name: Dewey Spring, after the stream by the same name
  • Origin of Name: Sept. 1874 renamed to Deweyville, after John C. Dewey, Mormon pioneer immigrant from England
  • Known for: A stop on the Utah Northern Railroad had saloons, post office, hotels & other businesses; was the main shipping point for Bear River Valley until 1901
  • Past Notable Features: Train stop on Utah Northern Railroad, later on Oregon Shortline Railroad; Once boasted business district with saloons, a brewery, two boarding houses, a barber shop, and lumber, hardware, and merchandise businesses
  • Location: Four miles east of Tremonton on Hwy 102; 14.9 miles (19 minutes) north of Brigham City on Hwy 38
  • Population: 2023 Census: 430. Up from 419 in 2020
